SVP, Partnership Development - CSM North America (New York, NY)


Located in the United States with oversight throughout North America, the Senior Vice President, Partnership Development is responsible for strategically planning and executing motorsports related sales and marketing strategies to drive new business. A successful candidate will be able to utilize strategic capabilities to penetrate multiple industries to understand the challenges brands face and demonstrate to brands how motorsports partnerships drive sales through both traditional and innovative programming. This position will engage Fortune 1000 companies and foster relationships with C-Level marketing decision makers. The successful candidate will understand the motorsports industry and work closely with North American-based teams, right holders, properties, and media contacts to remain current on available opportunities and innovations in sports.  This role will be focused on expanding CSM’s presence in North America from motorsports to all sports (i.e. soccer, baseball, basketball, football, hockey, golf, tennis as well as others.) He/she will manage a team of Business Development employees for research, project planning, and sales campaign management and delivery.

The SVP, Partnership Development will report to the New York based CSM President.  This role will be part of the North American CSM Business Development team, and specifically focused on motorsports.


The SVP, Partnership Development must be a confident, articulate, passionate individual with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively to drive new business relationships. S/he will plan, direct, control and coordinate national sales campaigns for the CSM team; will develop deep, collaborative relationships with c-level brand executives, motorsports industry contacts, and agency colleagues.  The successful candidate will be an excellent negotiator, and will, in collaboration with the agency’s legal team, manage contractual and financial terms of the partnerships from concept to close.

A critical factor to success will include gaining a deep understanding of a brand, it’s challenges, and the ability to identify both traditional and creative solutions available through motorsports opportunities. Programs should provide prospects with comprehensive marketing solutions that incorporate intellectual property, experiential, digital, multimedia, communications, and onsite activity.

Beyond these broad points, the successful individual will have the following attributes:

  • Critical, Strategic Thinking – A strategic thinker who can provide value-added insights to CSM clients and the agency.  A disciplined thinker with an intuitive streak who is comfortable making decisions without perfect knowledge, but who doesn’t depend solely on his or her “gut”.
  • Driven –A track record of getting things done.  Vision is not enough; to be successful one must be able to drive change yet flexible enough to react to the uncertain marketplace.
  • Account Management – This is a person who understands the critical value of “followership”.  This is a business development role and winning over the client, getting their enthusiastic support for a direction and a program is essential to success in this role.
  • Entrepreneurial - Someone who will take ultimate responsibility and assume significant accountability for the inherent risks and outcomes.   
  • Decision-Maker – The SVP must be able to balance the need to empower the organization with the need to ultimately make big decisions, even if they are unpopular.
  • Presenter – As one of the initial and key faces of the agency to the clients and the marketplace, must be an outstanding presenter.
  • Character – The candidate must be a person of principle with a clear moral compass, sincere in their dealings with others and consistent in their judgments.
  • Collaborative – The candidate must develop a deep understanding of CSM capabilities and resources and build strong relationships within the agency. 
  • Disciplined – The SVP must be disciplined in their approach to day-to-day duties.


  • A minimum of 10 years experience in sponsorship sales, including ample experience in motorsports, on a national level in an agency, sports or media organization with a provable track record of overachievement.
  • Demonstrated track record of success in closing large national deals with multiple deal elements including (but not limited to) sponsorship, media, marketing and on-site activation.
  • A substantial experience set in acquiring and satisfying sponsorship partners with deep client and agency side relationships.
  • Direct experience in contract management across multi-year, national sponsorship and media deals in excess of 7 figures.
  • Proven ability to successfully operate among senior executive levels on the client side (up to and including C-Suite executives).
  • Experience in developing and communicating revenue plans and forecasts and demonstrated experience in executing on those plans.
  • Experience in providing succinct and timely sales and industry information to senior management
  • Experience in developing successful sales strategies, objectives, and implementation plans
  • Demonstrated success in managing complex deals in a matrix environment.
  • Experience in a conceptual sales and marketing environment. Track record of success in creating unique concepts through aggregating assets, developing a value proposition and establishing premium pricing.

Physical Activities/Requirements:

The hours of work are those required to undertake your appointed duties and responsibilities to the satisfaction of the company and as necessitated by business.  Psychological stress is moderate-to-high. The Employee is required to sit for long periods of time as well as bend, crouch and twist while completing moderate lifting.  The Employee may regularly have to lift and/or carry up to 10 pounds, and occasionally may be required to lift and/or carry up to 20 pounds.  Work will be completed in a climate controlled office but may also be completed at outside events with varying temperatures and weather conditions.  There may be long periods of time when the employee is required to work on and look at a computer, as well as type and process entry in a keyboard.  The employee is required to see and hear to perform the regular duties of the position.  The physical demands described represent those that must be met by an Employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
